Canyon de chelly Accomodation

writes From: mark How crowded does it get here in april? Sometimes very crowded around Easter, but otherwise you should be able to get a room fairly close to your date. I rarely make a reservation more than a couple of days before I go up there. It's be most likely after Easter. Camping and/or motels. Should I book? If you know the day(s) you're there, sure, why not? I'd recommend Thunderbird Lodge or the Holiday Inn Express or the Junction Inn for motels, in that order. There's a campground at Thunderbird and a few smaller campgrounds further up-canyon. That's the trouble It's a free and easy road trip around arizona so I'm not sure which days Most people get their fill of de Chelly in a day or two at the most, unless you're doing a longer horseback or camping trip thru the inner Canyon. And don't be surprised if you get approached by locals bumming money for booze, which tends to knock the shine off the experience for many. I've been there before in the fall and I've not experienced this. I have heard about ti though. Other than driving the rim routes, hiking down to White House Ruins and doing the inner-canyon jeep or horseback tours there's not much going on at de Chelly, I feel. Well no. But it's a cool 'not much' -- mark |

It's a free and easy road trip around arizona so I'm not sure which days I think I'd just jot down the phone numbers of the Thunderbird Lodge and Junction Inn and buy a phone card when I get to the US and call ahead a day or so before I got to CdC to check on room status. |
