There is a taxi stand right at the port (after you wall all the way around this damn little shopping area). You can arrange for them to pick you up, if that's what you want. best snorkeling beaches? or other sightseeing places? Haven't snorkeled on Barbados but there's a cool beach called the "boatyard" not far from downtown. Admission fee is $10, for which you get chairs and $5 in tokens for drinks at the bar. |

I highly recommend The Boatyard as a good place to spend the day, and it's only a few minutes from the port by taxi. Stay away from their chicken breast sandwich, though. (Heartburn City!) |

The sandwich isn't that expensive, but the taxi ride won't be cheap. Still, I've recommended it because of the view. The balcony of the hotel hangs out over a sheer drop cliff. Below and to your side, the perfectly formed waves roll in and break on a pink beach. Sheer heaven! (One word of warning: Go easy on the hot sauce they offer in the condiment tray. Some chiles are hot but the burn is over fast. Some chiles appear moderate, but their heat lingers. These chiles start hot and stay hot!) what are taxi suggestions? do they drop you off at a beach or restaurant & arrange to pick you up at a specific time? comments on pricing? The restaurant is at a hotel so taxis for the return trip are either waiting at the taxi stand or easily called. As for renting a car, you'll need to decide how you feel about "wrong" side of the road driving -- including "wrong" side of the car steering wheel and shift stick. I wouldn't do it for a single-day port call. Karen Selwyn |
