Booked trip to Fiji...Now what
Hello all,
I have finally booked my trip to Fiji! Myself and a good friend will be headed there from November 23 through December 4th. We will be staying at the Sonaisali Resort http://www.sonaisali.com/ for five days, separated into 3 and 2, so that we can use the middle nights to explore the surrounding areas. I have already read the Travelers Guide To Oceania as recommended by some here. A few people recommended flying to Vanuatu and spending a few nights there, but let me clarify what my intentions a We are looking for an adventureous trip, rather than the lap of luxury. We are not planning on getting SCUBA certified, because we aren't avid divers and don't know how worthwhile it would be to get certified and then dive only once, maybe twice. We really want to rent a boat and cruise around the islands on our own, perhaps pitching a tent on some of the uninhabited islands. After reading the book on Oceania it wasn't recommended to do this because different tribes have rules about where you can go, and we don't want to rub anyone's nose the wrong way. We are single, straight men and in our mid-twenties, and would love some nightlife (i.e. women) but that isn't essential to the trip (just an added bonus). We like to swim, snorkel, hike, run, jet ski, etc. Maybe we can rent jet skis for the day and cruise the islands? Where are some good spots to go for what I am envisioning? I keep telling myself everything will pan out once I'm there, but I'd really like to figure some stuff out before going. I would love any insight or feedback anyone can provide. Thanks, Tim |

Just to add, I would even love to charter a sea plane and fly around the
islands, stopping at deserted spots if possible. "Tim A" wrote in message ... Hello all, I have finally booked my trip to Fiji! On hiring a boat, I recommend that you take local knowledge with you. There
are many reefs and not are all that obvious. If you do hire a boat, take in some fishing. Trolling during the day for Spanish Mackeral (Walu), Giant Trevali (Seqa), Yellow Fin Tuna. Get either of the latter two on your line and there is no experience quite like it. Bottom fish at night. Speak to some of the local staff at the hotel, they will fix you up with a fishing trip. Nightclubs - head to Nadi or Suva, the latter best IMO. Also organise yourself a trip over to Beachcomber Island. Everything else that you like to do is close at hand. You have selected one of the best hotels, so enjoy your trip. I will be in Fiji the same time as you people, but will be staying at Vatukoula Gold Mine with relatives. Travelling UK/Sydney/Fiji. Need any more info on Fiji, repost or email me. "Tim A" wrote in message ... Just to add, I would even love to charter a sea plane and fly around the islands, stopping at deserted spots if possible. Booked trip to Fiji...Now what
Thank you so much for your advice thus far. Perhaps we can meet up and swap
experiences whilst in Fiji? I'm discovering that finding out details about Fiji is difficult because a much fewer number of people have been there for any period of time. I have taken note of Beachcomber Island. One thing that confuses me is that I will be staying on the West Coast, and can't really gather how large the islands are. Where is Beachcomber Island in relation to where I am staying? Is it difficult to get around. Thanks, Tim "ripper" wrote in message ... OK, your hotel is about 35 miles south of Nadi - on the way to Suva. To get
to Beachcomber you will travel into Nadi - probably Denarua (from memory). A boat will take all tourists out to Beachcomber, I think it leave about 0930 or 1000 hrs. The journey to the island is about 90 mins. You will get there for a few beers & a lovely all you can eat lunch. Beachcomber island itself is small and west of Nadi. It is a one stubby walk around the island. You will be able to book a day trip to beachcomber from your hotel. They will probably provide a courtesy bus from the hotel. Viti Levu is not a large island, but getting places takes time. From your hotel to Suva is probably a couple of hours. I will be arriving in Nadi (with wife & two of my kids) on 18 November. Your hotel is about two hours drive from Vatukoula where we will be staying. If you email me your name, I can call the hotel sometime and may arrange a meet. "Tim A" wrote in message ... I found this site http://www.travelmaxia.com/maps/fiji_mamanucas.cfm that
has some good information. I was also looking at Treasure Island. "ripper" wrote in message ... OK, your hotel is about 35 miles south of Nadi - on the way to Suva. I stayed on several islands of the Yasawa group, which is north west of Viti Levu. No problems at all with native people, they are all very friendly. First ask to speak with the chief in town and bring some kava (local drink). You only have a couple of days, I see. Well, try to do a trip with 'awesome adventures'. They can make trips to the islands as long (or short) as you wish including lodging. Bring flashlights as there is no electricity (and also, there's no hot water). We are single, straight men and in our mid-twenties, and would love some nightlife (i.e. women) but that isn't essential to the trip (just an added bonus). Beachcomber as said, is the island for young singles. It's very touristic, small and has nothing to do with real nightlife. But, ok there is some nice beachlife. You can find some discotheques in Nadi and some pubs. Of course Suva offers the most. When I visited those clubs, eh....well..... Go see some pics of clubs in the seventies and you'll see what you get at Fiji :-) We like to swim, snorkel, hike, run, jet ski, etc. Maybe we can rent jet skis for the day and cruise the islands? I would love any insight or feedback anyone can provide. I haven't seen jet skis. Distances between Vitu and the islands is too big. Suva has a bad climate; it rains a lot. It's much better on the islands. Have a nice trip! Adiós, Cheche. |
