Classical music in London in June and July
Hi. I'm a classical music buff and will be in London in late June and
in early July. Could anyone please e-mail me (at ) to tell me where on the Web I can find listings of classical music events in and around London? Thanks for replying. Best, Dr. Geoff Akst, NYC, USA |

Look for the TimeOut publication when you are in London. No doubt there's a
web site also. There are lots of concerts held in churches. Traveler "Geoffrey Akst" wrote in message om... Hi. I'm a classical music buff and will be in London in late June and in early July. Hi. I'm a classical music buff and will be in London in late June and in early July. Could anyone please e-mail me (at ) to tell me where on the Web I can find listings of classical music events in and around London? Thanks for replying. google st martins in the fields (near Trafalgar Square) also Kenwood Crystal Palace (all with "concerts"). also try "english heritage" Google waitrose concerts (upmarket spermarket that sponsors such things) and you see a number of good leads (including the sponsored links on the right). Many of the open air concerts finish with fireworks, although Kenwood seem to have less and less each year (you take a picnic to Kenwood, either book a deckchair or sit on the grass, no chairs allowed, food, posh as you can manage!) Waitrose do hampers when they sponser a concert if you want, they seem to be doing Hampton Court this year. -- Mike Reid "Art is the lie that reveals the truth" P.Picasso Walking, Wasdale, Thames path, London etc "http://www.fellwalk.co.uk" -- you can email us@ this site Spain, food and walking "http://www.fell-walker.co.uk" -- dontuse@ all, it's a spamtrap |

You might try posting your request to rec.music.classical - there are a great many Londoners (and assorted other British nationals) who post there. Best, Dr. Geoff Akst, NYC, USA |

Thanks for replying. : Best, : Dr. Geoff Akst, NYC, USA Besides the Web, when you get to London, stop in at the City of London Tourist Info Center across Cannon St from St. Paul's Cathedral. They have brochures -- or, rather, BROshas :-) -- with complete weekly listings of lunchtime concerts/recitals in the City churches. Try to get to a few of them. They are free, although a contribution is welcome. You never know who you will see, especially if it is during the City Music Festival, which is held from time to time. A few years ago my wife and I caught a lunchtime concert at St Bride's with the Consort of Musicke (Evelyn Tubb, et al.). That "name" concert had an admission price, but it wasn't very much - a couple of pounds. Also, the choirs at St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and even smaller churches such as St. Peter ad Vincula at the Tower, are sublime. Ed Dente |
