Police Probe Cruise Ship Killing

A crew member on board the prestigious Queen Mary 2 cruise ship has been
killed. It is believed the 40-year-old Philippino crewman died after an
alleged fight in the crew quarters Eric Flounders, spokesman for the ship's
operators Cunard, said the man was airlifted off the ship on Friday and
taken to a hospital in the Netherlands, where he later died.

A second member of the ship's staff, a 49-year-old Philippino, was detained
on board, and British police have flown to Bergen, Norway, where the ship is
now docked

Because the Queen Mary 2 is registered in Southampton, Hampshire police will
lead inquiries into the death.

Mr Flounders said the crew member accused of causing the injuries was
confined to his cabin until police arrived.

He added: "The cruise will continue as normal and none of our passengers
have been affected. It is due back in Southampton on Wednesday."

The luxury liner is on a voyage around the Norwegian fjords and is due back
in Southampton on Wednesday.

The ship is the second largest cruiseliner in the world. It can carry about
3,000 people and weighs 151,400 tons.
