Default Places like the Outer Banks, but warm in the winter?

There must be other beach communities in the southern US with tons of
rental properties like OBX has. I'm guessing that we'd have to stick to
the gulf coast or the Florida keys to find places where it's real beach
weather in the dead of winter, but maybe not.

Any suggestions?

Maybe South Padre Island in Texas. We went a few years ago for two weeks at
Thanksgiving and the weather (except for one wild t-storm) was hot and
beautiful. The Gulf water was very warm. There are a variety of places to
stay and lots of good seafood restaurants (especially the gulf shrimp served
up fried in panko that is served everywhere). We flew into Brownsville and
there's another airport, but I don't remember the name of the town. Not
sure what it's like in the middle of winter.

Forget the gulf coast. The water is in the 50s or 60s in January.
You might be lucky to have 70s in February, or not.

But you will have 70s water all the time in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and
the keys.
