There are five national parks south of Yosemite, plus a natioanl monument and a national preserve. All of them quite scenic. Take your pick. If you want to visit these buy an annual pass when you visit Yosemite. That way one pass gets you into all 6. Good idea. Just make sure you ask for the National Parks Pass ($50), not the Yosemite Annual Pass ($40). The latter is only good at Yosemite. Patty |

Peter, May I use the pass in the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley as well as in Devi'ls Postpile? Good news about Devil's Postpile is that the Golden Eagle pass will cover the shuttle bus fee from Mammoth Mountain down to Devil's Postpile and back. Used to be that the monument was "free," but you needed to pay for the shuttle bus. This goes for the summer season, at least. I'm not sure how far into fall the shuttle bus runs. Of course, there is no shuttle bus once the road snows in. TK |

That's a good tip that I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet: if the original poster is interested in visiting areas that have access fees and are managed by the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, or Bureau of Land Management, an upgrade from the basic National Parks Pass to the Golden Eagle pass would be a good idea. I was at Furnace Creek on April 23 and it was upteen degrees warmer than anticipated. Extremely memorable. __________________________________________________ __________ Southern California's Four Seasons: Earthquake, Mudslide, Brushfire, and Riot http://geocities.com/dancefest/ http://geocities.com/iconoc/ ICQ: http://wwp.mirabilis.com/19098103 IClast at SFbay Net |
