I'm sure they're easy to avoid.

very easy. It sounds as if for good food you will need to do some
footwork and find a Spanish place.

Or cook myself - there's a credit crunch on you know...

It's good for cycling...

I take zero note of Martins jaundiced views on things but I do hear
Puerto del Carmen has gone downhill over the years.

Shame I don't think any of the spanish islands would be my first
choice for a holiday wanting to avoid burger joints and partying
brits, so I don't have very high expectations.

I assume lack of rain is why its good for cycling?

Warm enough to not be wearing lots of layers, low risk of rain, good
road surfaces, hills, local driving population very used to bikes.

As for the bikes, you are going to be in a small spanish airport,
which will be served by Mercedes taxis, but some will nowadays be
"people carriers" I dont know what a bike box looks like, would it
fit?

2 of them fit in the back of a black cab, where the fold down seats
would be, but it's a squeeze. They're pretty big.

I was hoping for a transfer service though as previous reports were
that getting taxis were a pain in the neck on a thursday.

so I hear.I wouldn't be taking on credit for a meal or three though
:-)

I actually quite like cooking myself, especially in a little self
catering apartment kitchen, the challenge to produce something good in
bad environments...

Re-food If you ever ate in the "Spanish" restaurant around the corner from where
you used to stay in Leiden, then on a scale of 1 to 10 and with the Leiden

3.

Well the Leiden restaurant would probably rate a 1 or 2 on a normal
scale of 1-10, so I don't hold out much hope

leave the boxes in left luggage at the airport?

This would be silly, it means having to build the bikes in the middle
of an airport (although some airports such as Nice do provide bike
stands to make that easy) and carry everything in rucksacks on -
repacking carry on / checked bag.

It then also means taking the packing the bikes in the airport for the
return trip, necessitating lots of hassle, and getting to the airport
much earlier than necessary.

You are committed to that as soon as you decide to take your bikes with you.

The box I used for transporting a bike was the box it was sold in. It was as
near hassle free as you can get.

Jim.

Why don't you rent bikes when you get there?

Why do you say that? We're currently considering a first visit.

Hi,

Anyone have any experience of airport transfer from Lanzarote ACE, to
Playa Del Carmen, 2 people, but both with bike boxes, so lots of
luggage space, all the normal airport transfer places seem to want to
charge lots extra for that.

Cheers,

Jim.
