Default More international passengers for Belgian rail

http://www.deredactie.be/cm/de.redac...ws/090113_NMBS

Tue 13/01/09 17:29 (UPDATE) - Belgium's publicly owned train operator,
the NMBS, conveyed 206 million passengers last year. The figure is 5%
up on the year and a new record. This is the first time that over 200
million passengers travelled on the domestic network during a single
year.

On an average day 400,000 people travel by Belgian rail.

Passenger numbers are up 50% on ten years ago. The Belgian Rail
Company NMBS is also performing better than the targets set out in the
management contract concluded between the company and the Federal
Government.
(Belga)

The company is also investing to cope with the increased number of
passengers.

Last year 100,000 extra seats were ordered.

The number of international rail passengers rose by 6% last year
reaching 10.6 million euros.

This includes passengers travelling on Eurostar and Thalys services to
the UK and Paris.
