Yeah, these days everyone should be weighing everything. We even take the scale to stores to weigh the bags. We just returned from Peru and they actually weighed our carry-ons. Seems now they have a 22# limit there as well ... at least on Taca Ah, TACA. We once saw our bags taken off the plane in Tegucagalpa after hopping from Roatan. No fueling facilities there, and you really didn't want any, so they hop there. Bags off, paying cargo on. Bags show up two days later. Scuba gear. Slightly wet scuba gear. Bags opened with a hose on them. Nice thing they were Cordura nylon duffles. TACA. Take A Chance Airline. TACA rhymes with CACA. When hell freezes over, I'll walk there barefoot rather than fly on TACA. OTOH, flying on TACA might get you there sooner. Or make you thing you're going to get there sooner. -- - dillon I am not invalid Toby (Tri-Umph That's the Sweet Truth) March 1998 - June 2010 What a dog. What a dog! |

But I think the point is that you need to check with the airline you are going to use to see what the carry on weight limit is ... if any. Yes that is the point. A smaller plane probably has different limits than the big jets The AA flights were DFW to HON. The Hawaiian flights were HON to the Big Island and back. Actually what really screwed us up was that Hawaiian Airlines does not allow check-in more than four hours prior to the flight while AA allows internet check in 24 hours prior. So I couldn't check in from the ship in the morning and get boarding passes for an afternoon flight. When I called the Hawaiian airlines number asking why the website kept saying that I needed "assistance", they did not say ANYTHING about that so I was left wondering. (And they did know what time the flight was because they did give me the Hawaiian Airlines flight number which was different from the one the AA partner gave me) Had I known, I would have gotten something to eat for lunch before I got to the airport. As it was, we got there and couldn't check our bags or get through security to get anything to eat before 1:30 and there was nothing in the terminal outside security Then of course when I checked to go back to HON, the website gave me the wrong flight time (it was the original flight time, but they had changed it to another flight a couple of months earlier), so again I was checking in at the airport a couple of minutes before the four hour limit |

We went to Hawaii last fall and flew twice on Hawaiian. We didn't have the carryon weighed either time and we were able to check in online the night before. I wonder if they have changed since we were there. I think that sometimes, even though there are rules in place, many airline employees will overlook them from time to time ... especially for pleasant customers. Of course, if you become a PITA at the counter, be prepared to get the whole rule book tossed at you. ;-) -- Ray ======================= www.compressorstuff.com |

I wonder if they have changed since we were there. This was in June 2010, so I guess the rules have changed. Skyways (or some such name) that is a partner with Delta and we flew on this same trip into West Yellowstone with a little 30 seat plane also weighs the carryon, but you can check in 24 hours in advance. In West Yellowstone, the TSA people that inspect your luggage do it right in the lobby. There's only one gate at that airport. Of course, if you become a PITA at the counter, be prepared to get the whole rule book tossed at you. ;-) I wasn't at the counter - I was trying to get a boarding pass on-line. When I got to the airport, I still wasn't able to check in on the machine. I had bags to check and the baggage people didn't know why either. So I went to the desk to ask and the lady in Honolulu was quite nasty and wanted to know what I was doing arriving at the airport more than 4 hours early. The people in Kona going the other way were very nice. So I don't think it was me. People are usually nice to me. |

Then again, i don't remember anyone being unpleasant. G |
