Thanks Frank. I've just started planning. We will travel from Melbourne to
Mildura and then across via Burra to Port Augusta. We will then travel up
the centre. So far that is the only decision that we have made. We will
probably leave late May, 2006.

We have a 4X4 Toyoto Prado and will be towing a 13'6'' caravan. Plenty big
enough for two people and very easy to manouver. I often tow it myself. We
don't believe in towing our bathroom with us.

Over the next few months I will post a few questions as I go through our
route.

A quick look at a map will let you know the reason why.

This really depends on whether you are early morning starters or late
afternoon evening drivers.

Going East to West you have the problems of driving into sun late
afternoon/evenings or vice versa, going West to East you are driving
into the morning sun.

I need to start planning our trip and would be interested in any tips or
must sees that you may be able to pass on.

The must sees are endless. Tell us what type of things you are
interested in and maybe we can give some tips. Just in case: There is no
opera house in Marble Bar! [1] :-)

We prefer a campervan because it is easier to drive [1], but having a
seperate towing vehicle definately gives the advantage which you
mention. Which just proves my life's motto that "best" doesn't exist,
just different, i.e. to each his own.

[1] Not to mention that renting (we are from The Netherlands, a.k.a.
"Holland") a towing vehicle and caravan is probably difficult/expensive.
