Default ground transport from London to Heathrow

We are a group of 4, will be staying at a hotel near Paddington station in
London at the end of this month. We need to catch a 8am flight from Heathrow
back to the States.

What time should be leave the hotel for the 8am flight?
What ground transport is working at that time in early morning?
Is there discount shuttle for a group of 4?
Thank you?

The earliest Heathrow Express departs Paddington Station at 05:10
and would arrive Heathrow at roughly 05:30. That gives you 2.5
hours for security and check-in. Fare is #14.50 and RailCards are
not applicable.

Heathrow Connect trains leave Paddington Station as early as
05:13 and take 25 minutes. Fare is #6.90, and RailCards are
applicable.

If you're near an Underground station and your luggage isn't
terribly burdensome you could use the Tube at a fare of #4.00,
but the need to change trains might be a bit of a burden and I'm
not clear when the earliest train would be available. The
convenience of this option would depend on what Underground
statiojn you were starting from.

If your departure is a weekday and you choose to use a shuttle, I
would suggest you depart quite early for the airport as rush hour
traffic can be a bitch.

Thank you very much. We are staying at Orchard Hotel 5 minutes walk from the
Paddington station. Each one of us have a 26" travel rolling suitcase.

For 8:25am departure flight at Heathrow, how would you recommend my timing?
All etickets are booked.

Thank you.

If you use the Heathrow Express I would aim to be at Paddington station
about 6am. I am not too strict about the 2 hour checkin unless I know there
are problems at the airport; I aim to be there 2 hrs before but if transport
is slow 1.5 hours has always been OK. But some people get a bit stressed if
they think they may be late - I don't

Alternative: at that time it should be OK by road, especially as you are
going against the flow. Your hotel could recommend a taxi company
(mini-cab/hirecar rather than the much more expensive black cabs) and they
could tell you when to leave - I would guess 5.45 from the hotel. Price is
probably a bit cheaper for a large car/minibus as the Express for 4, and it
is door to door - a bit more relaxed. I would do it that way but others may
prefer the Express etc.

Thank you RAK.
Can you tell me if this mini-cab can take 4 adult (reasonably skinny by
American standard, laugh)? What is the estimate cost from hotel around
Paddington to Heathrow? I can ask the hotel to reserve this mini-cab the
night before we depart? Thanks.

Prices vary according to the part of town where the company is, and I don't
know about Paddington. I would guess around £40+ for a normal car and maybe
£50-60 or so for a minibus/MPV which is what you need I think. A regular car
is a Ford Mondeo or similar, too small for you 4 with bags.
But that is really a guess based on fares from my area (Greenwich - further
from LHR but cheaper rates per mile). Maybe someone else knows better.

The hotel should be able to arrange this, but if they ask much more that
these prices then look in the yellow pages and call someone yourself.

There are also specialist limo companies with Mercedes etc for a bit more
money. A Merc wagon should be OK for you. (Skinny Americans... you mean
under 300 lbs each?!). I guess £65-70 for a Merc E.
Try a Google on heathrow transfer paddington - it gave me 80,000 hits!

I just tried this lot http://www.batransfer.com/ and they were cheaper than
the prices above. I have no idea how good they are.

I just checked the www.batransfer.com rate from my house to LHR and it is
about the same as my local minicab company, so seems OK.

Specify your needs with the hotel reception or whoever books minicabs
there. Cab firms usually operate a range of vehicles, including people
carriers, which would easily accommodate a party of four plus luggage.
Many firms offer quite competitive rates to London's airports, but ask
for rates before you confirm. The cost shared between four could be
lower per person than Heathrow Express, and the driver will help load
and unload your cases.

I sometimes ask for a larger vehicle from my local minicab firm (in
south west London) and I don't think they charge extra for that.
