Default Ticket Prices from U.S. to France

But the consolidator fares don't let you accumulate miles sometimes.

Sometimes they don't. But often they do. If they don't, you should
check into whether the money you save is worth it compared to the value
of the miles you don't collect. In my experience, the lower fare beats
out the lost miles.

Plus the best fares available might be on an air line other than the one
where you have a FF account?

Sure. I rarely buy tickets bases on whether or not I get miles points
for them. If I fly on an airline on which I didn't previously have a
miles account, I join their miles program. Maybe I'll fly with them
again, maybe not.

Don't get me wrong, frequent flier miles can definitely worth
collecting. But miles should be recognized for what they are; a bait to
keep you flying with the same airline.

My credit cards give me points, so I tend to use them for almost all of
my purchases. But some businesses I frequent offer incentives like
discounts for using cash. In many cases, these in-store incentives are
better value than than the points I collect with my credit card. So I
use cash. Shopping for airline tickets is no different.
