Kenya Timeline, Year 2003

Now here comes a supreme white To tell the natives what to think of themselves ... Isn't that nice! The natives wouldn't have known otherwise! John, is this some kind of reverse racism? I don't believe that there really is, or should be, a border between your "natives" and your "supreme white". Regardless of which of these two groups you like to put on top, you're always wrong (apart from the fact that as a reaction to a harmless list of events it was totally out of proportion anyway). Our best future lies in cooperation between all peoples and all races, not in the drawing of lines between them. Or, to put it bluntly, there are some malevolent and stupid whites and there are some malevolent and stupid blacks. But there is also the vast majority of fine people, on whom our future relies, and they also come in black, in white, and in various other skin colors. Anybody who wants to erect a fence around Kenya, or even between Kenyans of different skin color, belongs to the former. Fortunately most Kenyans, as well as most other sensible people on our little planet, know this very well, and so you find a fine mixture of races and skin tones throughout the country's institutions, you find white tourists appreciating Kenya's wonderful nature and wildlife heritage (and gladly paying for the privilege), and you find black and non-black Kenyans who are rightly proud of their country and of their power and good judgment to develop it further. And this is how it should be. Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |

It`s strange that after twenty years living in and visiting Kenya, the only racism, reverse or otherwise, I`ve only found on news groups and African forums! I never found it in Kenya and only once in Nigeria from a female check in girl at Kano airport! People were always friendly and welcoming. I`m told that there are certain people to be found on news groups who are there to, shall we say, incite or promote their thinking, which is often racial in origin. Pat -- Pat Anderson |
