You will be hooked. Trust me.

Have a wonderful time. We're leaving Sunday, as well. (Actually, we're leaving
for San Francisco TOMORROW (!!)...off on the Mercury Sunday afternoon.) Let's
compare notes when we get back ;-).

We leave from Sacramento to Miami on Saturday morning bright and
early, with a quick stopover in Denver. Then it's on to the ship on
Sunday! Wow. After months of talking, worrying, planning, budgeting,
more worrying, and dreaming... it's finally just about here.

I guess I should say farewell to everyone on r.t.c. for now... and
another round of 'thank yous' to everyone who gave me information and
got me excited with your various cruising stories.

This past summer, as we sailed from NYC to Bermuda, the first night out was
absolutely perfect. We could actually see the Milky Way from the forward
observation area on Zenith. By the second night out, we had gotten much
further south, and skies had become more balmy. That was the end of the
clear skies.

What you can see from the ship will depend on how well lit up the ship is.
Some ships have dark areas. Others don't. Some nights are clear while
others are always overcast because of the Caribbean humidity (it's hot and
there is a LOT of water around, so there is always humidity).

Which ship are you on?

Hi Tom,
We'll be on the Voyager of the Seas. We live in Northern Calfiornia
and it's only a short 20 minute drive to some rural area where there
are no city/town lights and it's perfect for stargazing. Even using
binoculars is fun to do with the moon!
I didn't think about the humidity causing the skies to be overcast...
that makes sense. I guess I will just hope for the best. It does
sound quite nice to be laying out at night and looking up and being
able to see all the stars... with nothing around for miles!
Stargazing will be just one more thing I have to remember to do! When
Karen and I are lon the deck, gazing into each other's eyes, my
internal voice will be saying "Look up! Look up! Don't forget to
look up!" ha ha

In addition to my mini-binoculars for the stars, I enjoy bringing my GPS to
figure out what all the lights are out on the horizon at night. My GPS is
one of the most important things I bring on a cruise.

Voyager is one of the few ships that lets you walk right up to the prow of
the ship. That's probably a good place to get away from the lights of the
ship at night.

Today was the 1st day off of work (it feels great), and in 2 days
we'll catch our plane to Miami. On Sunday it's Bon Voyagee (as Buggs
Bunny would say).

I'll be sure to post some notes when I get back, from a wide-eyed,
wet-behind-the-ears first time cruiser.

David, have a wonderful cruise and we will be waiting for your review when
you return!
