kentucky trip
Hi to all! Next week I'll be in kentucky for 4 days for a little road trip.
My route will be cincinnati - lexington - huntigton. What can I see about historical and natural attractions in the nearby? Thanks to all! -- Massimo Montanari (togliere sumer per mail) "Non andrą sempre bene... ma non andrą mica sempre male!" |

What can I see about historical and natural attractions Here are a few places I've visited... Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill http://www.shakervillageky.org/ A restored Shaker village, and some of the buildings have guides in costumes, etc. Nice restaurant and gift shop also, and you can also stay overnight if you wish in rooms with Shaker-style furniture. There's also a riverboat excursion a few miles away on the Dixie Belle: http://www.shakervillageky.org/vill/villexp2dixbel.asp Tickets can be purchased at the Shaker Village. Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Park http://www.nps.gov/abli/ A national park at the site where Lincoln's family had a farm where he was born. A log cabin is inside the memorial; they originally claimed it was the actual cabin he was born in, but now they aren't sure; in any event it's a good representation of it. There's also a visitor's center with Lincoln exhibits. The natural underground spring where the Lincoln family got their water is still there. If you have any interest in Lincoln you'll find it all very interesting. My Old Kentucky Home State Park http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/parks/kyhome.htm The beautiful home where "My Old Kentucky Home" was written; guides in costume give tours. The city of Bardstown (where My Old Kentucky Home is located) has several other historic attractions. Also, this region is the home of Kentucky bourbon and several distilleries in the areas give tours. I've been to Maker's Mark makersmark.com and found the tour to be very interesting, and there are several other good ones.
