Amari is there and more than adequate and certainly convenient. At the time
we were there they offered "partial" rates to patrons with situations you described herein. s "billybob" james@ wrote in message . .. hello, we are flying into Bangkok with arrival just after midnight and an onward flight (domestic) by 7AM. We are wondering if we should just sleep in the airport or go to a hotel for the night. (by the time we go through customs, pick up luggage etc and get to a hotel, I figure it would be a 4-5 hour rest before heading back to the airport) Is there sleepers in the domestic part of the airport? We are flying executive class (airmiles) and are wondering if we would be allowed in the executive lounge for the night, even when we are switching to domestic?? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you for any help. |

Figure 30 minutes to clear customs and immigration. If you go downtown to a hotel another 30 minutes to get there. Lose another hour in the morning going back. So you're right, not much time for sleep. There is a hotel at the airport (well, across the freeway). Not a great place, but clean and safe. my wife and I are planning to do pretty much the same thing. we have made reservations at the Quality Suites - which apparently is near the airport. Their room prices start at 1900 Bhatt ~ USD 47(http://www.asiatravel.com/thailand/qualitysuites/) That includes airport transfer and breakfast. This place is apparently 15 from the airport. |

I would use the sleeping rooms inside the international airport if you can check yourself and your bags through without going out through immigration. (But maybe domestic is another terminal? I forget.) The Amari airport hotel is near the airport but not inside. I stayed there earlier this year. It took only a few minutes to drive there, but coming back the next morning was a nightmare. I think the drive involved a big U turn round the freeway, then we could not get back on the usual road because of a massive fatal accident, then there was another fatal accident blocking another section, and the driver had to make a big diversion to get into the airport via back roads. This is of course unlikely to happen to you, but if I had not left the hotel early, maybe 2 1/2 hours before the flight, I would have missed it. If you arrive at the midnight you will probably not be in the room until maybe 1am then should leave around 4.30, not worth it in my opinion. And the hotel is mediocre. You may also be able to pay to go into a "business class" lounge, either officially or "informally" , some of them allow this but I don't know about the ones in BBK |

Staff from the hotel are always on hand to take your bags over for you. They do have short stays, but I'm sure they are only available during the day, If I remember correctly the room has to be vacated by 6pm. The other Amari Group hotels in BKK have an excellent reputation so I can't see why the Airport one would be mediocre. Sandy |

Agreed, the hotel is most unimpressive. But you can walk there in about 5 minutes through the enclosed sky tunnel thing. The signs in the airport are a little obscure, but it's the same exit you take for the airport rail station. You can bring luggage carts in the sky tunnel; when you get to the hotel end, the porters will take your bag to the reception desk. miguel -- Hit The Road!
