jesus man you're bitter.. bad experience getting clothes made I take it

Nope. Fortunately for me I'm not required to dress like that any more.
:-)

However I have been involved in recuriting and hiring and I can tell
you that the first impression is critical. While no one factor is
decisive there is no doubt that if you look like you're "faking it"
it's going to be a mark in the minus column when decisions are made.

well, tbh, unless you're a fashion designer, you're hardly going to know
whether a specific suit is 'supposed to look like an Armani or not'.

You'll just know that a suit looks good, which thankfully these ones do.
I've worn them to 2 interviews and, because they were fitted, I reckon
they were the most comfortable clothes I've ever been interviewed in, as
well as looking great.

Of course if you start saying "This is an Armani", then it might be
considered pretentious

That's the whole point, I think. I've got two jackets made in Bangkok, and both
look good on me. But if the tailor had put Armani stickers on them, the fake
would have been clear to the observer (and not only because students rarely can
afford them).

well I think the OP is just looking for 'good suits' in a style similar
to established brands, as opposed to passing them off as forgeries.

For the record, you can't get 'fake' labels put onto the suits made in
Hoi An (as far as I'm aware), but they will just copy whatever style
suit you want (sans labels of course)

Hello Stimp:

Thanks again for the valuable information:
------------
There's a large 'market'-type of building... looking rather like a
warehouse in the centre of Hoi An that houses some 40-50 different
mini-tailor shops. In the tailor market, go to the far right at the
back of the building and go to the tailor called 'Thin Phatt' (if they
are still there). Those are the guys I used if Ti is there.
------------
Could you please tell me more about the tailor? How long did it take
until you got your suits?
Are there also the most fashinable ties which are available in USA and
Europe? Are they cheap, too? How much?

Today, I have asked an acquaintance who is British but he used to live
in Cambodia for one year. He made extensive trips to Thailand and
Vietnam, too. He has told me that I shouldn't go to Hoi An but to go to
Saigon. Hoi An would be a place for fishers whereas in Saigon I could
get absolutely everything for the cheapest price and in the best
quality. He was wearing a beautiful shirt and he said that it was
tailored for him and he only paid $5 for the shirt.

What are your shopping experiences in Saigon? Why did you prefer Hoi An
instead of Saigon? Do you also buy shoes in Vietnam?

Which beach in Vietnam is the best that you could recommend to me? I
don't want to travel to Phuket/Thailand if I can find a beautiful beach
in Vietnam.

This acquaintance recommended me to take the bus from Bangkok over
Cambodia to Vietnam. By bus it only costs $4 from Thailand to Cambodia.

about 1-2 days

I've no idea about ties, they might make them, but doubt it.

well I got 3 shirts made in Hoi An for around that same price. Also got
a pure silk shirt which feels as light as a feather!

I didn't spend too long in Saigon, so it's possible that you might get a
good deal there too. I chose Hoi An because it's renowned for the
quality of the tailoring... but you might get as good in Saigon for
cheaper.

Which beach in Vietnam is the best that you could recommend to me? I

well as I mentioned before, Hoi An's beach is beautiful and I'd rate it
as among the best. I also visited China Beach between Danang and Hoi An
which was pristine white and quite beautiful.

yep, Cambodia is cool, although the roads are terrible. Vietnam is
absolutely stunning though.

Enjoy!

Hey Stimp,

Your comments make me enthusiastic about my upcoming trip to Southeast
Asia.
I do not speak one single word in Thai or Vietnamese or Cambodian. Is
it still possible to get around without any problems?

When I take the bus from Thailand to Cambodia, do I have to pay money
to soldiers in Cambodia? I remember Cambodia as a so-called failed
state...

I love nature and beaches and waterfalls. Where are the best beaches
and waterfalls in Vietnam and Thailand?

I am so thrilled about Thiland, Cambodia and Vietnam that I am thinking
of staying there for more than a month... What do you recommend as far
as length of stay is concerned? I know that in Thailand I can stay for
30 days only, but if I cross the border (so-called visa trip) and
return to Thailand I could get permission for 30 more days.

Could you please write something about costs, prices, shoes, ties,
waterfalls, beaches, massage, hotels, food, fruits?

I do not care how nice a hotel is as long as there the bed and the
shower is clean.

I will travel alone. Is this dangerous for me? I am pretty tall and I
look Asian.

How is crime in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam? I suppose there is no such
high risk of being kidnapped, is that correct?

costs = cheap
prices = cheap
shoes = bring some
ties = dunno
waterfalls = more in Laos
beaches = read above
massage = mmm... massage. Get the 'full treatment'
hotels = cheap
food = spicy, but less than India
fruits = lots!

I do not care how nice a hotel is as long as there the bed and the
shower is clean.

hotels are cheap and clean every where in Vietnam.. less so in Thailand.

I will travel alone. Is this dangerous for me? I am pretty tall and I

nah should be cool.. dunno about the Asian thing though... don't think
they're racist or anything so ya should be fine!

just don't do anything stupid, like taking drugs openly, and you'll be
fine

Hi Stimp,

How much did you have to pay for a room in a hotel in Vietnam? Could
you please tell me name and address besides the price? What was
included in the price? Breakfast? How good was breakfast at your hotel?
Do I have to negotiate about the price with the hotel manager? $2 per
night would be acceptable as I intend to stay in Vietnam for 25 days
approximately.

How much does a massage cost in Vietnam? How much does a "full
treatment" cost? How long does a massage or a "full treatment" cost
you?

Which beach in Vietnam did YOU personally like most? Can I also meet
interesting tourists from Europe and America there? Some horny,
adventurous American girls?

How much does a lunch cost for you?

How did you come to Vietnam? From where? By bus or by plane? How much
did you have to pay? Which bus or plane did you take?

When I travel from Bangkok to Vietnam by bus, how long will it take me
to arrive in Saigon/Vietnam? How much will it cost me? Is the journey
dangerous because of the military in Cambodia? Would you recommend to
avoid such a bus trip?

How did you communicate with your tailor? Do they speak sufficient
English or did you talk to them in Vietnamese?

Where are you from, Stimp? When do you plan to make a trip to Bangkok
or Vietnam again? Are you interested in travelling with me?
