And yes my lifestyle is completely supportable. People have been saying
the US lifestyle isn't supportable for over half a century and we keep
improving.

Any lifestyle is supportable if the population is not allowed to
expand out of control.

to support the US lifestyle across the globe population will have
to start falling fast.

Funny, but a lot of those people have been coming across the globe to the US
to work, and be part of that lifestyle. Sounds like it's the thrid world and
socialist lifestyles that aren't sustainable.

That's hardly connected to what Mike said.

You forgetting your European buddies Hitler and Stalin?

They are both very long dead. Believe it or not, things have changed
since then.

I think you missed a chunk yourself.

Note that I can own 3 cars and a lot of stuff that I want (never mind
if *you* or someone else thinks it's useless)

what you probably don't get is that that lifestyle isnt
supportable. We need to consume less, work less and pollute less,

Who are you to decide what others need to do?

He has a most important qualification: he cares about the welfare of
all, and not just his own.

When it comes to heat and air conditioning, I do.

That's what doctors and lawyers do, too, and yet they seem to do their

Why not let them find out themselves?

Another totally nonsensical statement from Mixi.

They have credentials in their specialism.

Besides, the better practitioners constantly check on things, and
update their knowledge and skills.

Again you demonstrate a basic lack of understanding. Capitalism didn't
"beat" Communism. Communism/Socialism failed all by itself. Socialism
is a fatally flawed theory and any attempt to implement it will always
fail over time. That has been proven over and over again.

The opposite is currently being demonstrated in the PRC.

Excuse me?????? The PRC is growing quite rapidly now. But there are
apparently 2 things you are unaware of.

'quite rapidly'??? They can barely control it!

The first is that the Chinese government has allowed private ownership
of industry and it is those businesses that are driving the growth.
That's called "Capitalism".

It's the only freedom the people have.

True enough. But the point is that it is the Capitalism that is
allowing the growth. Cut out the Socialism and the pent up demand
explodes into rapid growth.

In other words, you just proved my point.

The second is that if the growth continues then eventually the people
will rise up and throw out the last of the Communists and Socialism
will end. If not, then they will reach a point where the economy
plateaus and it will be "way" below the level of the West.

Yeah, yeah, sure. I've heard the same said about the USA, but the
other way round. When it happens I'll come back here and give you
credit for predicting it.

Well we won't have to worry about that because at the current
comparative rates of growth it will take China most of a century to
catch up to the US.
