Default Any inter-city buses/coaches?

Hi everyone,

Seems that the prefer travel mode is either trains or planes. Is there
any intercity bus service through major cities in Europe? I am looking
for something like the greyhound bus service in the USA.

Please provide web-sites if any. Need to look at prices and schedules.

Thanks in Advance.

Jymmy

No personal experience but you could try to look at

Nothing comparable to Greyhound for Europe, train
and plane being faster and more reliable for longer
distances in many countries

Eurobus/Eurolines is probably closest - check at
http://www.eurolines.com/ for more

In addition plenty of "local" operators offer also long
distance trips - major differences in quality of services
(and coaches) depending on operator ..... For many
of them, website - if available - often in national
language only.

National or regional operators complete the dense
railway network - for some countries and regions, passes
(and tickets) for rail AND bus service are available.

Might be worth specifying what region you plan to travel

There are many international bus services, operated by various companies.
However, usually trains offer more frequent and usually faster travel options.
On many international routes in Eastern Europe buses provide a more frequent
alternative to trains. Also for long distance routes (like Vienna - Madrid)
buses provide often direct services (alltough not very frequent), whereas trains
do require several changes. Buses are usually cheaper than trains, but less
comfortable.

Domestic services:
Some countries, like Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, etc)
have domestic intercity bus services.
In many countries intercity bus services only exist on routes without a good
rail service (which is hardly the case): Switzerland, Austria, Germany (except
some routes from/to Berlin), Italy, France, Hungary, Slovenia are some (maybe
not all) of that countries, with only few intercity bus services. Usually the
train is the way to travel in this country and no one thinks about the bus.

A centralised timetable information (similar to
www.bahn.de for trains) does not
exist for buses. You have to check the website of the companies.
Some countries (e.g. Czech Republic and Slovakia) have a coordinated timetable
information service for rail and bus.

Eurolines has been set up as a common brand for various international bus
operators, but a centralised timetable/fare information is not provided.
