Visiting Canada frequently - Can I leave my car?

Hello -
I am planning on maintaining a residence in the US but visiting Canada
on a weekly basis. After I drive my car into Canada, I will be flying
in and out for the visits. Is it possible to leave a car there for use
during these visits? I do not and will not be owning any property or
home in Canada. Also, is anyone aware whether or not I will ever "max
out" hte number of times that I can enter and leave the country?

I doubt very much you will be allowed to leave your car in Canada. Visitors
are required to take there possessions home with them minus any gifts under
I think $50. You should contact Canada Customs as customs regulations are
complicated.

Don't know if Canadian laws would prohibit it, but some insurance
policies limit the number of days your car can be continuously outside
the U.S. per year. Check with your agent.

It's doubtful. Any goods that you take into Canada and intend to leave
in Canada will have to be declared at customs, and a car is no
exception. Importing a car into Canada can be complicated. Even more
complicated is that after the car is imported, you will have to register
it and buy insurance in whatever province you are in. And to do that,
normally you must already have legal residency in Canada.

If you have a contact in Canada, you might consider having him register
a car and buy insurance in his name, declaring you as the principal
driver. This is obviously risky for him, because he will be ultimately
responsible if anything bad happens. I wouldn't do it, not even for a
friend.

Why don't you ask the canadian DMV?

Call the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency. This probably counts as
importing a car and it could rapidly get complicated, even more so if
you are not a permanent resident of Canada.

Import regulations also can vary depending upon the age of the
automobile and where it was manufactored.

At the very least I would expect that you might have to have it
certified (and possibly modified) to meet Canadian regulations.

Here is a possible starting place but I don't see anything about cars. I
know that CCRA does have a pamphlet on the topic but I don't remember if
it covers your situation.
