Default Barcelona pickpocket question

We are booked on the Oceania Insignia cruise from Barcelona to Rio de
Janeiro next month. We will fly in to Barcelona where Oceania will pick us
up and transport us to the ship, With recent discussions about Barcelona
pickpockets, we are wondering how much exposure to them we can expect in the
airport. I have purchased money belts (can't find our old ones), but the
wife wants to carry her purse with makeup and her miniature camera. How
risky is that?
Thanks,
Paul Johnson

No more risky than in any large City in Europe or in the USA. Bag snatchers
are very uncommon in Barcelona. Exercise normal prudence.

Not risky at all, IMHO
The airport has security personnel who can quickly
recognise repeat-non-passengersand expel them
before they can do any trouble

The place to exercise caution is the Ramblas. It is
easy to pay too much attention to the street performers
and not enough to those around you. As you are going
straight to the ship, you don't need to worry about
that either.

Thanks. I thought probably the airport would have pretty good control. I
appreciate your answer.

I am. I Googled Rio and found that it is one of the most violent cities in
the world- average 80 homicides a week.

Just came back from barcelona a few weeks ago and YES there is
professional Pickpocklets there, as it was said you need to use
PRudence, A money belt or a wristlet change purse much better then a
handbag. OR get one of those ones you put around your neck in front of
you. WE were on a RCCL excursion and our guide kept warning us said
its best to leave handbags on the bus... I took his advice, i was fine
the bus behind us a person was completely wiped out.
Men need to keep hands in their pockets too. These are beautiful woman
you would not expect! But some went to men and hugged them and there
it all went!
The guide kept apologizing for his country. BUT in other terms..
Barcelona is a beautiful City Sagrada Familia has alot of Pickpockets
its a MUST SEE though. WOW
