Gee, I hate to imagine what you think the slaughter-house employee - who kills several hundred animals every day- "richly deserves". (Notes for PETA members and other easily-outraged souls: 1.) The bulls killed in bullfights are butchered and the meat is generally given to charitable organizations such as orphanages; places that would seldom see any meat at all otherwise. 2.) Let's say you're a bull, shall we? Would you like a chance to take one of those funny-looking guys in the tight suits along with you when you go, or would you prefer to be hit between the eyes with a sledge hammer or electrocuted without warning?) I've seen a bullfight. The bulls are tortured and bled until they are weakened so the guy with the cape and the swords doesn't risk all that much. At least in a slaughterhouse the death is quick. Ask yourself. Would you like your death to consist of being stabbed with darts and left to bleed until someone sticks a sword into you or have a quick relatively painless end? Theory has it (and it is only theory), the bulls are so hyper with rage, adrenalin and homicidal instinct it does not register the pain. The bleeding does, however, weaken it considerably and (still enraged) gets to the point of exhaustion, the adrenalin still acting as an anesthetic. MC |

In the one bullfight I attended, a bull got one of his horns knocked off. He was in such pain thereafter that he just staggered around and refused to fight. They had to bring a replacement bull into the ring. Use of the word "fight" is a bit silly in this context anyway. The bulls I saw acted like they'd much rather be somewhere else. They ran around to escape the picadores, but more often in the direction of the exit than of the matador. The matador usually had to position himself in the bull's way to get him to run by. Bob |

Maybe if your country wasnt so backass 3rd world, where all they know to do is to FU^k 24 hours per day and pop out babies, maybe they wouldnt need so many orphanages. Also, how many young children do you know are able to eat steak? I ate bull meat once and it is tough and not so great tasting. Bulls are for breeding and not eating. |

And the whole show is disgusting, people being entertained by spilling blood. Spoken with all the sincerity of a colonialist explaining that it's okay to steal someone else's land and dictate every facet of his life because you're doing it "for his own good". (The poor little savage simply doesn't know any better.) Your culture is not theirs, and your automatic assumption that yours must be superior -and that you're therefore qualified to judge between them- is amazingly arrogant. |
