Default Why do you cruise?

I just wanted to add my answer to the others on this subject.

We, my husband and I, like to cruise for the following reasons.
a. we get to visit places we have never been before or could not do by
land.
B. My husband does not like to drive long distances and I don't see well
enough to drive and we find the cruising experience so much easier than
flying as far as the hassel of check in and so on.
C. We love the opportunity to meet new people and to be able to be totally
frank about things with out it getting back to the neighbors or family.
D. It is so nice not to have to plan and fix meals and to make beds and do
laundry.
E. It is a wonderful way to be able to try new foods and not worry about the
price.
I have never been on a cruise I didn't love and I have gone about 20 times.
We have used a travel agent for some cruises, and done it ourselves on line.
They both have their advantages.
Our favorite cruise was probably to the Amazon through International
Expeditions, about ten years ago. They do a great job. Only 8 passengers
on the Matilida. That was just great!!

Our next cruise is in December with our son who has never been on a cruise.
Anyhow, cruising is a wonderful way to travel.

Just wondering...

What is your #1 reason for cruising, as opposed to land touring?

~Anka

We do a lot of land travel. We opt to cruise for three kinds of trips:
(1)
coastline explorations that would be logistically challenging to achieve
by
land, e.g., Alaska; (2) "big picture" trips, where taking a ship to get a
taste of an entire region is easier than covering the same territory by
land, e.g., the Med or the Baltics; and (3) vacations, i.e., trips that
are
just for fun and relaxation. As for that third category--vacations--I've
run
the numbers many times, and for our party of four, cruising is almost
always
a far better value than any comparable land vacation. Consequently, I'd
have
to say our #1 reason for choosing cruise vs. land vacations is bang for
the
buck.

Thanks, Diana, for your classifications. All good reasons to opt for
cruising over land tours. I have to admit, sitting on a deck chair,
the breeze blowing through your hair, reading a good book and sipping
on a nice girlie drink beats a long bus ride any day.

The closest I ever got to the Amazon was amazon.com! Congrats!

Default Why do you cruise?

We're cruise newbies, having just taken our very first cruise this year.
Some of the things I like about cruising a

* The all-inclusive price for all the basics - food, room, etc.

* The amazing food!

* The staff - we had the best waiter and waitress, they always greeted
us with a warm, friendly smile at dinner.

* "Cashless cruising" -the ease of having your room key card double as
your stateroom account.

* The general feeling of just being flat-out pampered g

* Getting to see so many different places without the hassle of land or
air transportation in between, or having to pack and unpack at a
different hotel each night. It was such a wonderful feeling to get
settled in the first day and realize we had nothing else to worry about
for the next 10 days!

* The freedom to be as active or as relaxed as you want to be. You can
choose to take advantage of as many shipboard activities and excursions
as possible, or to just find a nice spot with a view and read a good
book.

* Knowing that, whether you book a luxurious suite or a cheap inside
cabin, once you leave your room, you have access to the same fun
activities and entertainment, great food and breathtaking scenery that
everybody else does.

They're both good, they each have their own unique qualities. Our
next vacation will either be the MSC Lirica or Secrets Playa del
Carmen.

Hi,

I'm considering a cruise myself so this is an interesting thread.

I've been a big fan of the jamaican AI resorts myself... everything is
NO PROBLEM -and- there's no extra bill at the end to cover the stuff I
did... if I want a bottle of champagne to go with breakfast at
Couples/Sandals/etc it's No Problem... voila champagne and 2 glasses to
go with breakfast...

horseback riding? sure no problem, they leave at 1:30 after lunch...

sailing? sure no problem, check out a hobbie cat at beach sports.

scuba? no problem, morning and afternoon dives...

and I'm a big fan of the blender drinks... I'd hate to see my "tab"
after a week on the beach in Negril at $5 a Hummingbird!

cruising is simply great, every day can be a completely different one if you want, what I mean is you are in a different place, there for such a short time that you dont have to spend time wondering what other people are thinking - you simply enjoy, relax and take the best bits of each place and time
