We will be travelling (camping by tent) in Rockies (Denver -
Yellowstone - Bryce - Grand Canyon - Arizona - New Mexico - Denver)
this summer. I want to use my laptop to access the internet
(campground reservation, browse for information, update blog etc)
throught wifi.

McDonalds and Starbucks are both providing wifi access in quite a
number of locations. Costs are considered appr. similar.

As a foreigner, I do not know if both McDonalds and Starbucks can be
found in the smaller towns and non-big-city areas, which will be where
we are travelling. So can anyone provide me arguments to choose (or
choose not) either McDonalds or Starbucks.
Also (any pointers to) any comparison on availability, quality of
service, etc is appreciated.

Ray

There's a very nice wifi locator on the URL below. It lists and displays
on a map both free and paid wifi access points

http://hotspot.msn.com/web/SearchView.aspx

I just checked for Tucson. The first place listed is Wilde
Playhouse, which went belly up a couple of years ago.

I gave up long ago any hope of finding up to date wi-fi or
netcafe sites.

Cost should no be a factor!! We travel all over North America in an RV
and find free wifi most every place, even in some Federal campgrounds
with consession locations.

Tom J

On an recent trip I used "Panera" sandwich shops locations for FREE access
during the entire trip.
( And I love there bagette sandwiches, so great lunch stop) .

Most hotels have it now for free too - just not SECURE. (802.11b)
Panera works with 802.11g if you have it.

Starbucks you have to use T-Mobile - fill out form etc. At Panera turn it
on - connect - done.

There are MANY sites like this - put in a location - it tells you wha'ts
nearby
http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/search.html
Especially if you already HAVE an account with ... some carrier, you can
search by carrier.
