Default transfers Zanzibar and Dar

I am planning a short holiday on Zanzibar. We're flying into Dar es Salaam,
staying maybe 2 nights and then out to Zanzibar.
1. Do I need to pre-arrange transfers? Or can I get a taxi or other from of
transport when I arrive at the airport (to Hotel) and from the Hotel to the
harbour, etc. And transfers on Zanzibar? What should I expect to pay?
2. Are there areas in Dar that are better or not for accommodation?
3. What amount of cash /travellers Ch must we take? i.e. how much money do
we need per day to buy 1 good meal a few drinks and a snack. What do things
cost?
Any advice will do.
thanks
Juliette

there are myriads of taxis. They're not too expensive. $10 ZNZ to
Stone town

fairly cheap. Maybe USD 10-20 per person at a non-hotel location.

Is this hotel in Stonetown or somewhere else on the island?
$60 should be ok for transfer to Nungwi (north) or to one of the
eastcoast places

8 km outside Stonetown. Is the currency in Zanzibar not the same as
Tanzania? or do they have their own money? About money - no ATM's on
Zanzibar? What type of money do I take?
Can one change travellers cheques or do I take cash?

Just chatting to my Zan contact and they're saying $10 per vehicle for
that distance. Where are you staying out of interest?

Sorry forgot to say....
Same currency as Tz but US$ will do just as well anywhere, your change
will always be in TzShillings though and you can end up with lots of
them if you're not careful!!
There's now an ATM that will accept credit cards in Stonetown, ask
anyone for directions!
If you don't mind paying commission then travellers cheques can be
changed in many places.

I seem to have gotten my locations mixed up. I asked for quotes for Paje by
Night and Mtoni Marine Centre and the $60 transfer was to Paje. Mtoni is
only $10. Mtoni seems much closer to Stonetown and therefore a better bet. I
also made enquiries about Botanic Country House. What suggestions do you
have? East or West. In or near Stonetown or elsewhere? We are nor all day
beach sitters. We'd like to see lots of museums and sights(culture) in
Stonetown, but adding a regular dip in the Ocean and a bit of snorkelling.
Eating in lots of local locations, etc.
thanks
