Giverny gardens in full bloom
The Monet Gardens Giverny is west of Paris, about two hours door-to-door by car. We went out there yesterday, taking our niece there. We had not been there in about 15 years. The A13 autoroute takes you there rapidly, one exits just beyond the first autoroute pay stop, taking the N15 along the Seine up to Vernon, crossing over the river and coming back a few km. The town itself has gentrified over the years, a little too perfect now. But the Monet gardens are in full and beautiful bloom and alone worth the trip out there. A fair number of Americans around but lots of French school kids. There are a number of web sites describing the complex at Giverny http://giverny.org/ for one, gives a great deal of information. So now is the time to go. Our previous visit at another time of year did not have the flowers the gardens have now. |

The NYT article has a better picture of the display, although the BBC
does better on details. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/16/ar...rssnyt&emc=rss Earl Evleth wrote: On 20/05/06 4:54, in article , "Carole Allen" wrote: I have been there as late as the last week of September and found them in full bloom... Thanks for that information since we could not remember exactly when we were there last. The Monet garden gardeners would have to constantly change some plants to get that much flower production! But I have never see such a large collection of flowering plants as at the Monet gardens. The whole complex has changed in the last 15 years Another bit of Monet news is the recent opening of the water lilies at the Orangerie ` See the following BBC web site for some of the color photos. And an article. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4989730.stm |
