Default Homestays, Hostels, Cheap/Budget travel

I'm looking for ideas on Homestays, Hostels, Cheap/Budget travel in
Europe.
Places, websites, etc. I'm a 24 year old college grad from the East
Coast. I'm thinking about doing the whole "Eurail/hostels/backpacking
thing", but not so sure about the Eurail. I don't really want to spend
too much cash if not necessary. Are there cheap/budget ways to see the
best of Europe? Thanks...

Hostel Watch is nice for finding the most comfortable hostels:

And Eurocheapo is a terrific site for hostels and cheap hotels:

Hi,

Well I've used 2 sites in the past for cheap travel around Europe:

1) http://www.CheapAccommodation.com/ lists loads of different hotels,
hostels, apartments etc in most European cities. They're all sorted by
category and ranking so you can find yourself a nice hostel or a cheap
hotel etc.

2) http://www.EuropeByAir.com/ is a great tool for US visitors to
Europe. basically it's an airpass that you can buy, enabling you to
hop around Europe. As far as I know it's only $99 per leg, often
cheaper than what Europeans can end up paying!

happy travels
