wrote: Travelling in the EURO zone question: Does Euro zone costs equal UK Pound zone costs against USD? No. In general UK costs are higher, especially in London, where they can be excruciating. It depends a lot on what you are buying though. You will find most (all?) Euro countries expensive due to the low value of the $US at the moment. --- DFM |

Travelling in the EURO zone question: Does Euro zone costs equal UK Pound zone costs against USD? Are you asking if the exchange rate against the dollar is the same for the pound as for the Euro? It isn't. See e.g., http://finance.yahoo.com/currency for details. As others have mentioned, after accounting for exchange rates the UK level of general prices is much higher than in the rest of Europe or the US. For many goods and services the cost in pounds is numerically quite close to the typical US cost in dollars for those same goods and services. A recommended practice is to delude yourself into thinking that pounds are dollars; otherwise, you are likely to be so horrified at the general level of prices in the UK that it may put a damper on your trip. -- Mitt huvud trillar av och det är fullt av godis. |
