Hotel Location in Berlin

Trying to choose a hotel in an interesting and convenient part of
Berlin. Choosing between Berlin-Mitte and Kurfürstendamm. Suggestions
would be appreciated.

Around Savignyplatz is my favorite. Still convenient close to S-bahn and a
walk from Ku-damm but more relaxed.

We were in Berlin 2 weeks ago, I'd rate Berlin-Mitte over Ku-Damm. The
former East Berlin is far more interesting than West Berlin, which was
sanitized in the 60's and 70's and starting to show its age. Outside
Bahnhof Zoo you can see 40 years of chewing gum trodden into the paving
stones. We stayed at the Hoingmond, very sweet, but a little pricey.
That said, I see the Air Berlin inflight magazine has an ad showing
special rates at the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza hotels, with a MoMA
exhibition ticket thrown in. Quote "Air Berlin MoMA" when you book at
