Just how much do they displace?

I think that GRT is based on interior revenue producing space. Not
displacement. |

Thus spake (HDawson228) : I think that GRT is based on interior revenue producing space. Not displacement. Exactly. One ton is one hundred cubic feet of revenue space. But how much does a cruise ship displace? This is confusing. GRT stands for Gross Registered Tons = 100 cubic feet. Interesting how they define a Ton to be measure of volume.. It is also interesting because I see GRT and displacement used interchangeabley quite often, even though they are not the same thing. The problem, of course, that this makes a search for the actual number more difficult. |

But how much does a cruise ship displace? I found some data in this .pdf file. Some of the entries show both GRT and displacement. For example, it show Carnival Victory with a GRT of 101,509 and a displacment of 50800 metric tons. http://www.gravina-access.com/projec...Navigation.pdf |
