A lot of folks would consider portions of California
such as San Francisco to be the ideal climate, with
moderate temperatures year round.

Hawaii has beautiful weather, but I know several folks
who feel that it's often too hot and humid for their taste.

Hawaii never gets as hot as California (it's extremely rare that temperatures
hit the 90s) and Hawaii never gets as cold as California (it's extremely rare
that the temperatures drop to 65 degrees in the middle of the night at sea
level.) KM

Probably northern California to Seattle (lots of rain, tho)
K

Northern California to Seattle means lots of overcast days, precipitation and
cloudy weather. Many people would say that's not the criteria for the "best"
climate. KM

I lived in Santa Barbara, CA and it was near perfect.

I'll second the motion! It never gets hot there and never gets cold by
temperate climate standards, not to mention the beautiful mountains ringing
the town and the gorgeous islands out in the bay. KM

Sonoma Valley, California

Can get hotter than hammered hell in the summertime and be overcast for long
periods of time in the winter. Santa Barbara is far superior with a much
narrower range of temperatures year round. KM

Hawaii never gets as hot as California ...

Average highs in August:
San Francisco -- 72.3
Honolulu -- 88.7

Now obviously the weather in the islands varies somewhat
from city to city, and it's cooler at the higher altitudes, but
in general the islands are much hotter than the San Francisco
area.

and Hawaii never gets as cold as California

Yes, here are the average lows in January:
San Francisco -- 41.8
Honolulu -- 65.7

If you're looking for consistently warm to hot weather, the
Hawaiian islands are ideal. But if you're looking for moderate
weather, it's hard to beat portions of California.

The mean temperature for July/August is about 70 degrees and it rarely tops
90 degrees.

I find that's true west of the valley.

Santa Barbara is far superior with a much
narrower range of temperatures year round. KM

Sonoma is ideal to my taste. Then again, this entire thread is subjective.
