Default Chartres - Bicycles

We hope to visit Chartres this Fall and plan on getting there by train from
Paris. I understand that we may be able to rent bicycles for a few hours,
which would facilitate exploring the town and cathedral. Since we won't have
a car, that seems like a convenient way to get around this small town. - It
looks like a rather long walk from the train station to the cathedral, for
example.

Question to all who may have visited the town recently: did you happen to
see bicycles for rent at a location near the train station? Or do you have
other suggestions for getting around the area? (Walk, walk walk, right?)

Thanks,
Jim

Nothing about it on the town's website, I just sent them an email and will
report their answer.

Mostly, even decades ago, we walked after having to park the car. Am I
right in thinking that the town is a bit hilly for bikes?

The city is quite small. The cathedral is only 500 meters away from the
train station. The streets of the old center are narrow and pleasant.

The yellow pages reference a single bike rental shop: Veland 1 Bis pl Gén
de Gaulle 28000 CHARTRES half-way between the station and the cathedral.
Walking is the best option to visit the town.

Other notable curiosities :
- Tainted glass museum, at a walking distance from the cathedral.

- Musée Picasiette very curiously decorated house of Raymond Isidore
(closed nov 1. to march 31.).

- the old town, walls, river banks.

It's not far from the station. It's a very small place, I've been there many
times but
don't remember ever seeing a bus.

Was there a couple of weeks ago, drove their from CDG but walked all
over. I saw buses but not in the very center near the Cathedral, though
there are some narrow roads.

Bikes might work but I didn't see anyone else riding and really no
places to lock them up.

I didn't go inside the Beaux Arts museum so beyond the cathedral maybe
not much else to see. The town seems to be trying. They had a little
fair nearby with ferris wheel and some other rides.

They also had a light show projected on one of the facades of the
cathedral, which happened to have scaffolding over it.

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions. Sounds like walking may be the
best choice.
