Default Guidance on AC power voltage in Australia

Hello all,
I need a guidance on AC power connector input that is used by Oz.

1. I am planning to purchase a notebook (laptop) can anyone tell me is
the AC power requirement in India the same as in Oz.
India uses: 220/230 V & 50 hz freq.

2. After going to the website I got to know that Indian and Oz both of
them uses different pins all together. Are socket converts available at
places in Oz?

3. Also any one suggest name of the Laptop that is realiable and good.

clarification is appreciated.
thank you.
regards,
Muks

Australia has a slightly higher voltage (nominally 240Volts AC), frequency
is the same. There should be no difficulty running your laptop in Australia
at this slightly higher voltage. You can readily obtain converter plugs in
Australia at electrical stores.

I wouldn't want to recommend any particular laptop, you could check out
www.zdnet.com and www.epinions.com for reviews of various brands and models.

PS Try kropla.com for everything you ever wanted to know about electrical
sockets but were afraid to ask!

Roughly. It would work, although voltages and cycles vary slightly from
state to state.

Yeah, strange how Australia has failed to follow Indian standards 8-) Any
major electronic store (Dick Smith, Tandy's) would have converters. They
are undoubtedly available at home as well (Wal-Mart and the ilk have 'em
in the travel section). Beware that some converters are not recommended
for sensitive equipment.

3. Also any one suggest name of the Laptop that is realiable and good.

Whole other topic......it really depends on what you want it to do, and
what is most important (processing speed, battery life....). There are
tons of technical mags (PC World, etc.) that have monthly ratings and
tests; Consumer Reports would also be a good place to go.

Personally, I've had good luck with Dell.

No you are WRONG.....All states run within a window 240vac +/- 10 % @ 50hz.

Dave,

Nearly all laptops now seem to have a "universal" power supply - we
purchased one for our teenage daughter in the USA last year and simply
needed to buy a new cord from Dick Smith.

So all anyone needs in another country is the appropriate converter plug.

PS - most rechargeable razors also seem to be "universal" as well. It seems,
one looking at anything, that you should check the international symbols
printed somewhere on the gear.

You can buy plug Adapters at most Airports these days or off the web.
