What happened when international flights overbook (specially SriLankan air)
For my earlier query a kind poster,Wout, gave me the link
http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/sri_lan.htm One thing that troubles me is overbooking/overselling! How does this affect passengers? I know in fights within North America, they give a $100-$200 in cash and a boarding pass for the next flight, usually within 2-3 hours. I Wonder what Sri Lankan air does. |

Not all passengers show up for flights they are booked for. If the seats went empty, it would cost the airlines money. Without going into the boring economics details, the outcomde would be higher ticket prices. |

Isn't that what I was talking about? |

I don't know about Sri Lanka and I think it does depend on the country and airline policy. Examples I have heard of in the last few years (flights either I or friends were on): Emirates and Singapore Airlines both asked people at check-in if they were willing to miss the flight and take one in the next day or two. Compensation offers included : - upgrade economy to business and/or - some cash payment and/or - a complementary stopover at a good hotel (these were long haul UK-Australia flights) I can't remember the details but they seemed quite generous, and friends who took an offer from Emirates were delighted with the upgrade. But these are 2 of the best airlines in the world; Sri Lanka (Air Lanka?) may not be so generous. |

Mate : I wouldn't fight on an aircraft - for $2,000 - yet alone "$100-$200 in cash"!! "Rowen" wrote in message news:QxeFf.554255$ki.429777@pd7tw2no... I must say, I have a choice between Emirates and SriLankan for London-Colombo; same price, but Emirates one is not a direct flight; since we are with kids I am choosing UL. |
