Why Liberals are really reluctant to means test Social Security
benefits

"..Social Security and Medicare depends heavily on the fact that many
Americans don’t see them as wealth redistribution programs, but as
earned benefits. “I paid in, I deserve to get something
back.” ...Means testing would make that view far less plausible, since
it would make it hard to disguise that these are not insurance plans
but welfare programs..."

The phrase "means testing" has two meanings. The one you know about
and the one you don't. The one you know about applies to someone who
might be drawing Social Security and still making a million dollars a
year, for example.

The meaning that you don't know about is a plan by the Democrats and
the Republicans to cut benefits for everyone who made more than about
$40,000 before they retired, but keep the benefits in tact for those
who made less than that.

In other words, the fix is in. Both parties plan to turn Social
Security into a welfare program paid for by the middle class, and as
you have indicated, that will eventually kill the program as soon as
people get their head out of their butts and realize how they were
screwed.

nor should they means test the programs. that is a backdoor to
slashing benefits, so that the charlatans and wealthy cranks that
initiated urinated on ecomomics, do not have to be self responsible,
and pay back the loans they took out from s.s., to cover up the huge
failure the trickled on economics produces.

That what I am afraid this is.

The Wall Street hyenas are sniffing every corner for some extra cash
that is still left in this country and they just can't stay calm
looking at Social Security fund. People must be vigilant and don't let
them steal their life savings.

FDR and his advisers crafted s.s. to be a large pool of money that
"CONSERVATIVES" could not raid in a economic emergency brought on by
"CONSERVATIVE" extremism. that large pool of money goes directly into
the real economy, as keynes/galbraith advised the money should go.
that large pool of money that "THE CONSERVATIVES" cannot touch, is
keeping the economy moving, barely, but moving.
