Roomier JetBlue Seats
Put Bloom on Rows
By JENNIFER HODSON
March 20, 2008; Page D2

Some passengers will soon have more room to stretch their legs aboard
JetBlue Airways Corp. flights, and JetBlue may have just found a way
to stretch out and broaden its revenue sources.

Beginning with flights on April 1, JetBlue customers can pay between
$10 and $20 for four more inches of legroom.

The low-cost carrier said it had reconfigured its Airbus A320 fleet to
offer six rows with 38 inches of "pitch," or the distance from any
point on one seat to the same point on the seat behind or in front, as
opposed to the 34 inches in all other JetBlue coach rows. The industry
average is about 31 to 32 inches.

Every other airline that has tried this has failed to make the idea work.

Perhaps JetBlue will have better luck

I thought it was a bit higher than $10-20 (for the other airlines). Of course,
if this is not available with a discounted ticket ......

Should you use the mailblocks package and expect a response from me,
you should preauthorize the dissensoftware.com domain.

I very rarely bother responding to challenge/response systems,
especially those from irresponsible companies.

Every other airline that has tried this has failed to make the idea work.

United would be rather surprised to hear that. They upsell me to
Economy Plus every time I fly them.

I used to be annoyed (particularly when my star alliance gold stopped
getting me into E+), but now I realize that charging extra means that
those of us with really long legs who are particularly miserable in
31" seats can reliably get a non-life-threatening seat.

You don't even get a bigger seat, just more leg room. And stop calling me
surely.

Surely you could spend 30 seconds looking at United's web site to see
what E+ is rather than just spouting nonsense.

R's,
John

PS: You don't get a bigger seat.

I am curious. That's 24 extra inches.
How do they get this 24 extra inches?
Logically, removing one row would give them 34 extra inches or enough
space for at least two more rows of these 4 extra inches.

According to Seatguru, the current config is 36" for the first nine
rows, 39" and 37" for exit rows 10 and 11, and 34" for the rest of the
plane. Looks to me like they pushed five of the rows closer together
and six farther apart.
