In addition to normal cool weather clothing, take a good rainproof
windbreaker with a hood, an umbrella, waterproof (perhaps Goretex-lined)
walking shoes, some warm wool sweaters, and a warm hat.

Most Londoners of course will make do with the umbrella or the
waterproof or the hat! :-)

Certainly, as I would at home. However, the tourist often spends long
spells out of doors and may not have a pair of dry shoes to change into.

London really comes alive in its short summer, with heaps of stuff going

on
everywhere. The winters, however, are long, grey and REALLY depressing! I
would not want my first trip to London to be in November. One would not

get
a good impression of how awesome it can be...

I disagree

For walking tours a crisp early winter day is much nicer than
hot steamy one in summer and in November there's a good
chance you'll actually get into the Tower without a 2 hour queue.

April to October is fine. November grey, December, Christmas
ahhhhh, Jan-Feb cold, but bright days are the BEST there is.
March, dramatic. Then that brings us back to A........

Yes, I would never select August to be in London. Being a cool
city it suffers a bit in August, not much aircon, hot and sweaty.
Not as much outdoor living as generally hotter places.

I am hoping to make my first trip to London in Nov. of this year. I
would like to know what the weather will be like.

So would we

Is this a good time
of the year for tours and seeing the city/

Yes , the weather may be wet and cool but is unlikely
to fall much below freezing and the tourists have all gone
home so most of the sights are much quieter.

Keith

Generally damp and overcast in November. Lots of leaves on the ground in the
parks, trees mostly shed all their leaves. November 5 is Guy Fawkes night,
good for fireworks and big bonfires. Days are very short, dark by 5:30pm
and light by 8:30am. Have the long periods of gloom that last from 4:00pm
until dark, and from 8:00am until 9:00am.

Not too cold and can expect some nice crisp days. Definitely not my favorite
time of year (I much prefer September or late June). Good time
for visiting museums, the theater, and shopping on Regent St/Oxford St.

Many Londoners will actually make do with dashing blindly across busy
streets as they have forgotten to take umbrella, waterproof etc... when
leaving home that morning !
