I am amused by geographical nicknames - Lost Wages for Las Vegas,

Taxachusettes for Massachusettes.

Nashvegas for the country-show-business side of Nashville.

I went to school in the eastern part of the state - Knoxville - which we
referred to as "Knoxpatch"

eric h filted:

Seattle's tourist pitch as the emerald city never stuck with me; I always
called it Jet City, after the product that made it famous after Rainier
Beer and before Starbucks.

It's also the "King City", after the county it's in...put that next to "Queen
City" (Cincinnati) and "Duke City" (Albuquerque) and you've got 60% of a
Jeopardy category....r

Isn't New Orleans sometimes called The Big Easy?

Yes, and the Crescent City (because the crescent shape caused by the
river running through the city)

Houston is often called H-Town by locals or other Texans, while the
city leaders have dubbed it Space City (for NASA) and Bayou City (for
all the waterways)

I've used this, but I much prefer Herb Caen's word: Lozangeles. He also
sometimes referred to his beloved San Francisco as Ess Eff.

Baghdad by the Bay.
