Get your facts right. The ship left Australia with 57k sheep, not 67k. Of
the 5k that have died on board, 3k died while the ship was tied up in a
Saudi port in temperatures in the mid 40's (C) for several days because the
Saudis decided to play politics with them. Immediately upon the Saudi
rejection of these sheep on spurious grounds, Saudi Arabia was removed from
the list of countries approved to receive shipments of live sheep from
Australia.

Due to a number of exotic diseases which exist in the middle east which
currently Australia is free of, these sheep will almost certainly have to be
slaughtered at sea, or else they will return to Australian waters, but not
close enough to the mainland for the diseases they may have picked up in the
middle east to come ashore, before returning to another port in the guise of
a fresh shipment.

There is considerable opposition to live exports in this country, but the
Arabs insist upon it. Personally, I say they should go hungry.
