Apparently the Sensation was rescheduled to leave at 2:45 instead of
4:00. They were 5 minutes late and denied boarding in N.O.

That is another reason for me to not cruise on Carnival. Why can't
they bring people onboard until the gangplank is pulled away?

Eons ago I cruised on Ocean Cruise Lines and was on a flight that
arrived hours late. The cruise line held the ship. After I boarded
I dropped my carry on in my cabin and went up on deck. In those few
minutes, the ship had pulled away from the dock and was underway.

It is so sad that these people missed the ship, I feel so bad for them,
especially considering they were left in New Orleans during and after
the hurricane. How terrible it must have been for them.

You can dislike Carnival if you want to, but this would have happened on
any cruise line. Carnival was forced to leave the port early because
hurricane Katrina was approaching New Orleans and they were closing the
Mississippi to traffic. The port authorities told Carnival when they
were going to leave, it was not the other way around.

It always helps to read the docs.

ADVANCED OR DELAYED SAILINGS

In the event of strikes, lockouts, riots and stoppage of labor from
whatever cause, or for any other reason whatsoever, including
INCLEMENT WEATHER, the ship owner may at any time cancel, ADVANCE or
postpone any scheduled sailing and may, but is not obligated to,
substitute another vessel and shall not be liable for any loss to
guests by reason of cancellation or substitution.
