Default 17 yr old jailed after holiday flirt in Turkey

Hmmm... what if both the boy and the girl were 13 and had sex? Who would
be arrested?

I do not know when youths enter the age of discretion (Strafmündigkeit) in
Turkey. In Germany it would be 14 years, so both offenders could not be
prosecuted.

Perhaps this page might help a bit: http://piology.org/dtl/recht.html

The legal age of consent is 18 in Turkey, so it is irrelevant that the
girl claimed to be 15. In Germany the boy could save himself with this.

But never mind what happened: it is just a bit too much to put a
17-year-old boy into jail if the girl still is a virgin!

Well, young Larry Meadows was sentenced for eight years in prison because he
tried to lift forty dollars from a charity box (he was a kleptomaniac).

Nope. They have different weather for us.

A Muslim state? Surely Turkey is a secular state? :-)

But more Muslim than it was in the 1920's! (When Turkey
gave women the vote even before the U.S. did.)

maybe EU should outlaw "established" churches.

but then people like you would blame the EU for interfering.

They can only interfere with countries that want to join. The standards
there are higher than for members.

If there was a referendum on the euro however, it would be voted down,
and I'd be among the no voters.

Why?

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Not at any airport or crossing point I've been at. I suppose it
might make sense to do that at a terminal which mainly handles
British charter flights.

Heathrow has one at the immigration gate to the domestic flights area in
Terminal 1

So does the P&O ferry terminal in Hull.

I don't think it's in the UK's economic interest at the moment, and it
would just be an excuse to raise prices more. Simple as that, really.
That said, I love the Euro- it's very convenient for travelling in much
of Europe.
