Why? Genuine question! Do you mean they definitely would have ATMs?

Of course Southampton has ATMs

I really do not understand why the question is silly if asked about a US
port.

OK. And I think any major UK port has ATMs. Of course!

It's getting hard to find anywhere that doesn't have them now, they are even
in lots of pubs and fuel stations.
Plus lots of taxis take credit cards. A local bus is one of the few places
where you can't pay with plastic.

IIRC some years back someone asked on this NG whether airport X had ATMs
and set off a similar slanging match. Someone then reported that there
were indeed a few airports in Sweden without any ATMs.

Which airport- Marco Polo? I'll be flying into Treviso tomorrow, but
have plenty of euro...

Yes, it was the Marco Polo A/P and it was in May of 2004 when we took the
Westerdam out of Venice for a Mediterranean cruise...Perhaps they have
installed ATMs there since...it will be interesting to know if you notice
any when you land there...

One word of warning if Jean is still listening.

There may be an ATM, but it could be out of order or empty. It happens.
It might also not accept your card.
I'd take sufficient sterling to get to the next ATM by taxi if necessary.

I'm listening, Martin! Thanks for the advice...We have since been in touch
with the mini-van driver that is picking us up at the pier and he will take
us to an ATM if necessary...I prefer using one at a bank so that if it
should *eat* my card, I can go inside and reclaim it!

The Italians were more liberal with the use of trailing zeros.

So we noticed...I still have some Italian bills with many zeros...I suppose
they are of no value now?

If you still have lira notes that were valid currency at the time of the
euro changeover, you can take them to Italy's central national bank,
Banca d'Italia, and turn them in for euros. That means going to a main
city, probably Rome but I wouldn't rule out Milan or other larger
cities, to do so. The rate is something like 1932 lira to one euro.

There is at least one ATM Treviso airport too, FWIW.
