Default clothes to bring

So i'm goign backpacking through oz in january to mid-march and am
wondering what i need to bring for clothes. I know, shorts, tees,
etc..but I have heard that to go out on the town, you should bring some
nice clothes. I don't really care to hit the fancy spots, but don't
wanna get refused beer because I'm wearing shorts and sandals!

Cheers

To go out in a big city good clothes is what you will need to get into
nightclubs. But in some coastal towns the clothes standards are
relaxed.Around Melbourne and Adelaide they can still get some days around 15
degrees max. On the other side of the coin Vic & SA 40 + days are common.

You can go to the SOH in a singlet, shorts and thongs for all they care....

Seriously, for all but the most flash/trendy/clubby spots, "smart casual" is
quite adequate.

Just remember that the UV index at that time of year is generally extreme
and you may need to think about bringing something that will allow you to
cover up completely.

Do yourself a big favour and pack as little as possible.

I suggest one pair of shorts, one pair of jeans, one t-shirt, one shirt with
a colar. A good pair of leather sandals and no shoes. Include a small towel,
sweater and a change of underwear. No coat. That's all you'll need.

Give the clothes you wore each day a quick wash each night and hang them out
to dry overnight. They will dry quickly in the summer heat.

If you need anything else, just go and buy it. You'll be buying souvenir
t-shirts anyway. Don't worry about wearing basically the same clothes each
day as there are no fashion police on patrol here in Australia.

Just buy a day pack and fit everything into that. Travel light, it's the way
to go.

Have a good trip.

Many places in the big cities won't let you wear jeans in so I'd pack
something else. The suburban pubs are fairly relaxed but there are some
that are picky. RSL Clubs require a "smart casual" standard of dress
and no shorts, thongs (sandals), tshirts, etc after say around 6pm.

Enjoy your trip.

Can aborigines wear their native dress?

Enjoy your trip.

A lot of clubs have a "shirt with collar" requirement - golf shirts suffice.
They may prohibit jeans but allow dress shorts with long socks, although
many will accept "dress" jeans.
