Question about Berlin's train station
Hello:
I will be arriving in Berlin coming via rail from Copenhagen. Does Berlin have only one train station? If not, which train station will I be arriving to? Also, other than a cab, what is the best way to get to my hotel? My hotel is located right next to the Kurfurstendamm, the address being Paderborner Strasse 10 The hotel name is AGON LICHTBURG. And last, but not least, how safe is Berlin? Would I be a tempting target hauling a suitecase at 4:00 PM? Thanks for the help Carlos |

Question about Berlin's train station
Hi!
carlosjm wrote: I will be arriving in Berlin coming via rail from Copenhagen. Does Berlin have only one train station? If not, which train station will I be arriving to? I assume you come via Hamburg, as the more direct line via ferry has been canceled years ago. The trains from Hamburg stop at Berlin-Spandau, Berlin-Hauptbahnhof and Berlin Südkreuz. You should get off at Spandau and take a S-Bahn (City light railway) or regional train (RE or RB) to Berlin-Charlottenburg. Also, other than a cab, what is the best way to get to my hotel? My hotel is located right next to the Kurfurstendamm, the address being Paderborner Strasse 10 The hotel name is AGON LICHTBURG. From the train station it is within walking distance (about 10 minutes), but you can use a bus as well (see www.bvg.de). And last, but not least, how safe is Berlin? Would I be a tempting target hauling a suitecase at 4:00 PM? I don't think so! brgds and HTH -- Gunter Herrmann Orlando, Florida, USA (originally from Berlin) |

Question about Berlin's train station

If not, Zoölogical Gardens. what is the best way to get to my hotel? If the new station, take a bus with a destination of Zoölogical Gardens. It will stop at Kurfurstendam. If Zoölogical Gardens, walk a block to the subway and ride for a stop (I think). how safe is Berlin? Your question is unanswerable because an Earthquake could happen at any instant. Fires happen. Cyclones, floods, tornadoes, tsunami, hurricanes. Bad guys might be at the corner. If they're not involved with someone else, they might want to get involved with you. You could be mistakenly arrested and charged with a serious crime. Traffic lights get out of order. People ignore STOP signs and lights. Safety isn't anywhere. Danger is everywhere. What scares you might differ from what scares me. Statistics indicate that your bathroom is the most dangerous place you can be. Better watch out! Would I be a tempting target hauling a suitecase at 4:00 PM? Of course! I was at 04:00 in May but noöne succumb'd. -- __________________________________________________ ______________ A San Franciscan in (where else?) Though I think he would have said if he were going this way. tim |

Also, other than a cab, what is the best way to get to my hotel? public transport My hotel is located right next to the Kurfurstendamm, the address being Paderborner Strasse 10 If you get out at Hauptbahnhof, you can take an S-Bahn to Zoologischer Garten. From there it's a short walk to your hotel. Actually taking the S-Bahn as far as Wilmersdorfer Str. and then change to the U-Bahn would be better. The hotel is right next to Adenauerplatz. All in all very easy to reach by public transportation - no need for a taxi. But I was just wondering if the trainticket would also be valid for onward travel on the Berlin public transportation system ? -- Kristian |
