Can someone clarify whether stores are open and on which days over Easter?
The Tripadvisor site http://tinyurl.com/dyfwcd says that stores close on
Easter Sunday, but Harrods http://tinyurl.com/c48b5e appears to be open.

Thanks
T.

That's strange, I can't find a single reference. The only post remotely
resembling is from PJ o'D about Vienna. Is there something wrong with my
ISP?

I think so, unless you have organised the Airbus A380 full of lawyers from
Leiden who are determined to shop there that day based on the statement on
Mr Rods website that he is open on Bank Holidays.

same title, same post, on the 24th with 24 replies. Harrods website
implies they are open, seems they are not.

In that case there is something wrong with the ISP.

mangled uncounted electrons thus:

The Tripadvisor site http://tinyurl.com/dyfwcd says that stores close on

The relevant law (Sunday Trading Act 1994) states quite clearly
and categorically that no store with a trading area of more than
280 sq. m. / 3000 sq. ft. can open on Easter Sunday.

Identical restrictions on opening on Christmas Day are imposed by
the Christmas Day (Trading) Act 2004.

Stores with less than the above trading area can open or not as
they please.

It appears that Harrods has made a mistake if they actually state
that they will be open on Easter Sunday (as opposed to stating
that they are simply normally open on Sundays).

Martin D. Pay
There are no exceptions in either law for shops owned/operated by
persons of non-Christian religions.

So? The question was whether they would be open, not whether it would
be legal for them to open.

I don't know about London, but in Toronto I've certainly seen large
stores open on days when they were not allowed to be. The store
owners took the view that if the store turned out to be busy at such
times, this proved that there was a public demand to change the law,
and any fines they incurred in the meantime would be more than offset
by the extra business. (And indeed the laws have been changed, twice
in my memory.)
