That would mean there are about twice as many in the U.S. (where almost
all of them live).

What is your definition for "rich" and "wealthy"?

Permanently having more money and income than you know what to do with.

True in the U.S., but not in Europe.

In the highly
unlikely event that they manage to overcome all the social obstacles to
actually making lots of money through earning alone (as opposed to being
born into it), the tax people will take it all.

In most of Europe, it is tacitly understood that if you aren't born into
money, you have no right to accumulate it, even by working for it.

you meant to finish "in the 19th Century", did your machine go
down?

I'm just now looking a cookbook by a man named Gulab Noon, he has
made himself rich by making supermarket curry ready meals in UK.
They have given him an MBE BTW. In the last boom top employees in
the City of London received £1m annual bonuses. Which Europe do
you live in?

No, that is how Europe is _today_.

Europeans like the idea of everyone remaining at his proper station in
life. They even impose the restriction on themselves; they feel
themselves "traitors" of a sort if they become too successful without
having the necessary family ties and old-school buddies, and they work
to sabotage the success of anyone else who steps out of line in this
way.

The one that still worships royals, and keeps them rich with taxpayer
monies.

How do you get "about twice as many" ansd "nearly all" from those figures?

Some europeans worship royals, some americans worship filmstars
and even let them run the state/country sometimes. Its only UK
that has a really high profile (powerless) royal family and they
probably show a profit on tourism, although I would be happy to
do without them. (although I can enjoy a ceremonial from time to
time).
