Visiting New Zealand

Hi!

I have always wanted to visit New Zealand and I will be
doing it next January 2005.

I only have 8 days available. I will be flying from Singapore
into Auckland. I hate driving.

Questions:

1) Is there any "mystical" town, area, etc. near Auckland?

2) Is there any other town/city, in addition to Auckland, with
hot springs, mountains, scenic views, to visit? [Keep in mind
that I have only a week]

3) Are there trains or should I favour buses for transportation
purposes?

4) May you know of a website for affordable hotels?

5) How hot is the weather in January? Do I need to stay in
a place with air conditioned?
