If not, it would be better for an American to rent the premises of his

Yes the business owner can own the structure 100%. But very, very few
business owners do, even in the US. You have better uses for your
capital than tying it up in a building.-

This is a good point, but I have a feeling you work in thailand as an
employee not as a business owner.

You have to have 4 thai employees and an investment of 2 m. baht to
open a sole proprietorship.

I think you might learn something from this article:

I think you might learn something by getting your information from a
reliable source.

The article was trying to come up with illegal ways of owning land,
etc. And it is wrong.

For example, a company owned sole by an American under the treaty can
*NOT* own land.

Only an idiot would open a "front" company to do something illegal in
Thailand.

We should not argue with each other.

I respect the knowledge that you have and your sincerity.

but I think you are missing some things.

the purpose of my posts is to set up a serious business venture.

Just because someone sets up one of these "front" companies, does not
mean the front company is illegal.

Front company have valid uses.

A person can use a legal company for illegal uses in any case. that is
not my intention.

I repeat that i think you have experience and knowledge of thailand as
an employee, but to set up a sole proprietorship

without having to get a "thai partner"

One needs to hire 4 thai employees.

the article I quoted for you is one of many articles on the web. You
can get bits of information from each of them without believing all of
what they say.

The minimum one needs is 650,000 Baht, from what I see so far AND you
have to hire 4 thais.

Since I plan to run the business as a one man operation for the first
year, these employees would be dead weight.

The question is, would it be cheaper to hire 4 employees "on paper"
then tell them to take the day off

This would give me the right to a work permit.

I am paying the thai employees only to get the work permit.

This would not be illegal. It would be in compliance with the law, and
enable me to run the business as it should be run in the beginning.

We should not argue with each other over these trivialities. You also
need to look at the articles on the web, including the thai government
site, as I have.

The point of these these threads is to get to the real truth about how
to acccomplish the goal.

We should not be so obsessed with morality and finding fault with each
other that we miss the point.

Read the 2 sentences above. Completely contradictory. If you want a
serious business venture you don't set up front companies to skirt the
law.
