Walking the Great Wall of China
Hi!
I'm wondering whether it is possible to Walk the ENTIRE wall of China? I've read some pages that some people have already done it but they all mention some permits and restrictions... If so, where can I get more information regarding what I need? I guess this is a pretty crazy idea but it is (one) of my really big goals. I was thinking about doing this in about two years time, when I finish college. But there's no harm in starting to plan things ahead. Any ideas/help is appreciated Thanks, Saso |

So it is not possible to walk the entire length of the Wall. Besides, the entire length is not well defined anyway. Thanks, Saso |

Hi! I'm wondering whether it is possible to Walk the ENTIRE wall of China? Considering on the state of the great wall of China, it would be much better to walk BESIDE the wall instead of ON the wall. It should be noted that the great wall of China actually consist of several walls, and not all walls are connected with each other. I guess this is a pretty crazy idea but it is (one) of my really big goals. If you are willing to walk for a around 6 thousands kilometers, that's your choice. I was thinking about doing this in about two years time, Well... It probably take around one year or two years to cover that distance. Any ideas/help is appreciated Bring a satellite phone, a tent, and suefficient supplies. Thanks, Saso |

I was thinking about something like this:
http://www.studenttraveler.com/mag/01-01/china.php From "Jiayuguan" to "QingHuanDao"... and not covering all the branches just the route between those two points. http://www.travelchinaguide.com/chin...cene/index.htm (point11 to point1). Do you know what kind of permits they are talking about (the studenttraveler link above)? Who can I ask regarding this? Thanks for your replies... saso btw. do you know anyone who has done this? btw. do you know anyone who has done this? It was a long time ago, but there is a book still in print with the account of someone who has done a trip from Jiayuguan to Shanhaiguan, William Lindesay. He's now resident in Beijing, organises weekend trips on unrestored sections of the Wall, and leads a variety of conservation efforts. There's something of his experiences at: http://www.wildwall.com Peter N-H http://members.shaw.ca/pnhpublic/China.html |
